Learn More About Greece Central’s ESSA Designation
New York State’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) plan is federal legislation replacing No Child Left Behind. It focuses on identifying strategies to promote educational equity by providing support to districts and schools as they work to ensure that every student succeeds. ESSA also calls for fiscal transparency in school building funding and specifically calls out the importance of culturally responsive education and social-emotional learning.
Based on data from the 2017-18 school year, Greece Central has been named a Target District for having one Comprehensive Support and Improvement School (CSI). Longridge Elementary School was identified as a CSI for because the “all students” subgroup performed lower than similar students taking the English Language Arts and Math assessments in grades 3-5. Additionally, the percentage of Longridge English Language Learner students meeting progress targets on the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT) needs improvement.
CSI schools are required to participate in an on-site needs assessment, survey parents and staff, use data to identify needs to be addressed in the school’s improvement plan, and develop a School Comprehensive Education Plan(SCEP) to submit to the New York State Education Department (NYSED) for approval.
An NYSED Integrated Intervention Team will visit Greece Central in April to help develop the District Comprehensive Support Plan for submission by July 1. Once approved, likely in August, the plan will be posted to the district website.
