Workforce Development Program

  • The Office of Community Education offers a number of career certificate programs for community members interested in obtaining new skills or transitioning to new careers.

    Note - orientations for all of these programs are held at the Community Learning Center, 200 Alcott Road, Rochester, 14626.

    Office Technology
    Self-paced instruction meets daily from 9-21 hours/week in selected Career Clusters. 220 hours of intensive training in Microsoft Office software. Choose from one of the following Career Clusters: Computer Applications, Word Processing, Accounting Clerical, or Medical Clerical. Customer Service training and assessment for National Professional Certification in Customer Service are included.

    Pharmacy Technician
    Through partnerships with CVS/pharmacy and Unity Hospital, this program provides comprehensive retail and hospital pharmacy instruction by a team of pharmacy technician professionals. Curriculum components include: Retail/Hospital Pharmacy, Pharmacy Math, Software Introduction, and Customer Service. Classroom, on-site hospital, and retail pharmacy class hours total 100. Testing for National Professional Certification in Customer Service is conducted at the conclusion of the course.

    Custodial Maintenance and Repair
    Students will learn the basics of Custodial Maintenance and Repair as it relates to the following areas: General Maintenance, Safety, Building Operations. Instruction is provided by specially trained staff representing various skills and trade areas. 60 class hours will provide a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training.

    Essential Workplace Computer Skills
    Develop pre-employment computer skills, prepare for job training programs, or civil service typing and database tests. Self-paced instruction meets 2 to 3 mornings or afternoons per week for 7-10 weeks, totaling 60 hours. Curriculum components include: keyboarding and speed development; computer hardware, internet, email foundation skills; introduction to typing text, database entries, and editing.
